Roger Clemens is a retired American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 24 seasons from 1984 to 2007. He was born on August 4, 1962, in Dayton, Ohio.
Clemens is considered one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history. He won seven Cy Young Awards (an award given to the best pitcher in each league) during his career, which is more than any other pitcher in history. He also won the American League MVP award in 1986.
Clemens played for four different teams during his career: the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, and the Houston Astros. He was known for his dominating fastball, which often exceeded 95 miles per hour, as well as his hard slider and splitter.
Clemens was also known for his intense competitive spirit, and his career was not without controversy. He was accused of using performance-enhancing drugs during his career, and he was the subject of a high-profile trial in 2012, in which he was acquitted of charges of lying to Congress about his alleged steroid use.
Despite the controversy surrounding his career, Clemens remains one of the most accomplished pitchers in baseball history, with a career record of 354 wins and 184 losses, a 3.12 earned run average, and 4,672 strikeouts. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
