Cal Ripken Jr. is a legendary baseball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest shortstops of all time. He played his entire career for the Baltimore Orioles, and his dedication to the game and his record-breaking achievement of playing in 2,632 consecutive games have earned him a place in baseball history.

Born on August 24, 1960, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Cal Ripken Jr. grew up in a family that was deeply connected to baseball. His father, Cal Ripken Sr., was a longtime coach and manager in the Orioles organization, and his brother, Billy Ripken, also played in the major leagues.

Cal Jr. began his baseball career as a young boy, playing in Little League and Babe Ruth leagues before being drafted by the Orioles in 1978. He made his major league debut on August 10, 1981, at the age of 20.

Over the next 21 seasons, Cal Ripken Jr. established himself as one of the most reliable and consistent players in the game. He played in every game for 16 straight seasons, breaking Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 consecutive games played on September 6, 1995. Ripken's streak continued for another 501 games, finally coming to an end on September 20, 1998.

Ripken's durability and work ethic were legendary. He was known for his intense focus and dedication to the game, and he spent countless hours practicing and perfecting his skills. He won two American League MVP awards, was named to the All-Star team 19 times, and won two Gold Glove Awards for his defensive prowess.

Off the field, Cal Ripken Jr. was known for his philanthropic work and his commitment to his community. He founded the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation in honor of his father, which provides underprivileged youth with opportunities to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities.
